By plane

The closest international airport is Francisco Sá Carneiro International Airport [OPO] in Porto, located 70 kms to the north of Aveiro. 

Portela International Airport [LIS] in Lisbon is located 250 kms south of Aveiro.

 

By public transport

From the Porto airport you can travel by Metro to the central train station, Campanhã. The trip takes 33 minutes and single travel tickets cost €2,45 [Z4 fare + purchase of the Andante blue card]. Please refer to the Metro do Porto website for more info.

In the train station Porto – Campanhã there are regular trains to Aveiro. Urban trains usually take from 58 to 69min from Porto to Aveiro and cost €3,40 per trip. Quicker long-distance trains are also available: Intercidades (37min; €11,70 per trip) and Alfa Pendular (32min; €14,20 per trip). You can check timetables and book long-distance train tickets in advance at the CP website.

From the Lisbon airport you can also travel by Metro to the Oriente train station. Take the red line from Aeroporto to Oriente (less than 10 minutes). Single tickets cost €1,40 + the Viva Viagem card (extra €0,50).

In the Oriente train station you can take a long distance train to Aveiro. The Intercidades train costs €20,20 and takes 2h20min; the Alfa Pendular train takes 2h and costs €26,30. Again, you can check timetables and book long-distance train tickets in advance at the CP website. There are promotions when booking tickets in advance.
